There is no masking the voice in bel canto repertory--the voice is the reason for the season, if you will.
True, singers tend to develop a very good physical memory sensation of pitch--especially at the extremes of our range!

the violin is an octave higher. The C is just a the dominant in the key, thats not a note singers need help finding, especially not anyone thats good enough to be singing this role.

I find this video and JDF to be awesome. Donizetti probably wrote it that way but do you think it is cheating that the violin hits the same high C when he does? It might help him find the note and might also mask any imperfections in his tone. I am not a vocal authority by any means but this occurred to me.

terrific performance I must say. The ending is flawless but it sounds like he was struggling while singing other high Cs in the middle. In contrast Yang Yang has a more powerful voice. His video is also available on Youtube. |
