"Lesbian, a resident of Lesbos," I agree, it's unfortunate that we allow these distortions to take root. Perhaps homosexual women should be called 'Sapphorians'.

No shit it would sound strange, that is why we are complaining. The word originally had no association with sexual orientation. It was the name of a Greek island for about 2,500 years. Like many other European words, that originate from a Greek route, "Lesbian" does too. We wish it was not used in reference to homosexual women, so we can use the word comfortably and not feel "strange".
If it didn't sound strange, why the fuck would we make a big deal about it?

Lesbians are the residences of LESBOS,ISLAND!The distortion that the women who love women are called LESBIANS ,,,BY THE ENGLISH and the AMERICANS HAS TO STOP NOW!!!They called the women who love women LESBIANS,BECAUSE OF SAPPHO THE ANCIENT POET!!WHO WAS FROM LESBOS,BUT WAS NOT EVEN A "LESBIAN" BUT definitely was a LESBIAN,WHICH MEANS A RESIDENT OF LESBOS!

"Hi everyone! My name is Angela. I'm 18 years old. I'm a Lesbian, I'm straight and I love athletic men."

A resident of Lesbos is called a Lesbian. What if the person is a man? "My name is Mario and I'm a Lesbian, and this is why wife Angela." I mean no offense to lesbians, but wouldn't that sound strange?
