We look forward to mangoes and melons in summers and citrus in winters. We are from a poor country. Can't afford green houses, cold storages etc. Also we can't pay for the transportation across 1000miles. Local food by default.

The important similarity between the war on terror and the war of obeisity is that they are both perpetuated by the uneducated. The people need to know what needs to be done. In a market economy, like that of the "west," change must come from the demand side of the equation. It must start with people shifting away from large-scale cunsumerism towards sustainable methods of prodution like the ones shown in this video.

Cheap access to energy is what surburbia is predicated upon. After a mere 50 years of suburban bliss no more cheap energy. Think about this for a moment please.
Large scale modern farming too is unsustainable on all fronts animal, vegetable, mineral.
So many of mankinds cancers and diseases are caused by chemicals and plastics made from OIL. WE KNOW, but most are trapped it seems in suburbia consuming and obeying.
We dirt farmers will be more respected for our wisdom and values. Soon.

There will come a time when food cant be transported across the world. if you want fruit like strawberries in the winter, you will have to buy them in season and preserve them

You're just right. A reasoned, well thought out position like yours has me convinced. Thanks for setting me straight. I appreciate it. I shouldn't have made a straw man argument and called her names. My bad.

Well you're an idiot. She was talking about the pesticides and agrochemicals used in nations that would supply produce in during the winter. STFU buddy. Get some of the facts straight, at least a few, when you attack someone.

It's simple: more food is better for everyone.
you actually said that vegetables and fruits in the winter are not a good thing.
if you are going to support the "war on obesity" then you should support the "war on terror". they are both based on pandering and hype.
expensive food kills people. yes, you feel better about yourself because you think you're "doing something" but you're really killing people.
access to inexpensive and plentiful food doesn't cause obesity. overeating causes obesity.
