I still think the AOE3 campaign was not centered really enough on empires as the 2nd one was. See in the 3rd one it was all about the Black family line. While the 2nd one was about how the French were reborn and how the Scotts fought for their freedom.

no, they were setting up empires in the Americas. It's arguable that exploring and claiming new lands is much easier then capturing others in war. In this case there was no more unclaimed lands in Europe and making war there was harder then simply taking over the lands from the Indians who had inferior technology at the time.
