In which Katie plays Mark Nevin's "Trepak", and then transitions to his "Reflections" [Update: Katie took TWO 1st Division Ratings today at Solo & Ensemble, 1 on piano and 1 on clarinet, and has the opportunity to go on to State competition!] A Trepak is a Russian dance, and this first piece is subtitled "Russian Dance Festival." It is important to note that this is NOT Tchaikovsky's Trepak from the Nutcracker Suite that everyone is more familiar with, but a newer Trepak by Mark Nevin. The second part is Mark Nevins' "Reflections", a meditative contrasting piece that evokes images of lazy days and lemonade at the lake for me. Katie competes in District Festival Solo & Ensemble today with these pieces, and I recorded her last night to give her a little pressure before today. She will also be playing a Clarinet Solo as a second entry in the Solo & Ensemble Festival. Thanks for watching! Please Rate,Comment and Favorite if you like it. -dan'l

I did subscribe. I'm absolutely swamped with keeping up -- but I LOVED what I heard. Mighty easy on the eyes too, if you don't mind me saying. :-) A pleasure meeting you, Hay. Come again sometime!

It's a good brand -- Cable -- but the cork is old and brittle, so it won't keep a tune in the upper register. It's also a short-stringed console upright, which I think makes the upper range sound "plinkier" and the low range "sloppy". I'm comparing its tone to brand new pianos on the showroom floor, and the baby grand at church, and I like their warmth much better. But you're right. I'm using the mic on my Kodak digital cam to record, and it's horrid. -dan'l

Thank you so much! She and her piano Instructor put together the arpeggios between pieces to bridge them together, since they're in different keys, but the judge actually didn't like that. Thanks for listening.

Bt the way...i don't think it's a bad piano. I think the microphone you are using to record is though. It needs to be place in a better spot. But she's super talented.

This is great. She's got lots talent. Love the melodies in this peice. It's not easy. I can see why she won the award. I love the chord changes in this piece. 5 stars.
