This was the period between Ed King leaving the group and just prior to Steve Gaines replacing him. Ed King left because of differences between him and Ronnie Van Zant (in many interviews Ed King has said that he could not take Ronnie being so mean and a control freak, coupled with having a drug problem), so he left. Ed King did come back with the new Skynyrd from 87-96 and played extremely well.
