I like the part about the refridgerator-sized diamond. Makes you think.

Okay this is old...but what kind of BS are you talking about here about Mormons? Kinda forget the genocide of the Indians by Mormons when they moved in on the belief that they were evil?

I think the main point we should take from this lecture is that none of us know the complete truth, so we shouldn't act like we do. The only way that we can progress and come together is to talk about our philosophies and come closer and closer to the truth using logic and comparing facts rather than assumptions and wishes.

Any specific counter-arguments?

The point is that the belief itself is illogical. Francis Collins is one of the most brilliant men on earth but he doesn't hold his religious beliefs to the same scrutiny as his scientific inquiry. Also you're sappy anecdotal evidence is totally uninstructive and unpersuasive.

nah.. there is only slight resemblance between them.

Religion does not exclude logic. The most intelligent people I personally know are religios.

Not really, hes giving a lecture, if someone wants to walk out, feel free. You walk out at church and everyone will stare you down. Hes also using logic. I see what you mean, but its better to spread the freedom of choice and knowledge, then mind locking, numbing religion. |
