I used to think that this was horrible. I even tried to create my own version of the star spangled banner because i listened to this. But when i thought about the time he was in and what was going on, i realized that this was the greatest version of all, even better than Vai's. The star spangled banner is always sung as a proud song, but this portrays the pain and fear of the Vietnam war and what was truly happening for what this song stood for. very powerful.

rethinking it, there is no one to compare Jimi with. league of his own and untouchable esp. since he died at age 27,,,man he'd gone so much further always ahead of his time willing to take big risks and be himself at any cost. not commercial. a musician/artist first and foremost. in this song alone he has countless riffs/techniques that are being copied 38 years after his passing! also he had the charisma factor missing in so many musicians.
