Who ever drove that lap DID use the brakes. The problem is, this software doesn't have very good sounds, so the slowing down sounds like downshifting with no wheel-braking.
And if you downshift in a real F1 car, you'll not only kill the engine, but you'll also crash because engine-braking is NOT enough to slow the car down at racing speeds.

you don't seem to use the brakes at all. you just shift down the gears to slow down. if you do that in a real f1 car, you're killing the engine.
