Probably because his best friend Jim Capaldi who was key member of the band had just died. Not sure what you mean by 'also ran', unless thats what you call Blind Faith, and then a huge solo career in the 80's.

Ironically, We got stuck in "Traffic" on the interstate on the way to see him in concert with Tom Petty. I saw him do his all-time greatest songs though. Cough - it was a smoky concert.

peter gabriel and eric clapton sound like a mix of winwood. i love all his music old and new. each album has helped my life soar to higher levels. i like this song alot. fun to jam with and the essence stays with me for longtemps.
