I started to learn playing cello after listen Casals playing this piece for the fist time.
I only could compare him with Jackeline du Pré as a genious playing with the heart. I thing she studied with him for a short time in Switzerland.

Fantastic...my first ever LP of cello music as a kid was Casals..great to finally see him too now

Casals with 80 years old and in a tape wiyh 60 years old but is the best player I've ever seen playing this Bach's 1st Suite

Pablo Casals, quite simply, set the standard of excellence by which all other 'cellists will be forever judged.

I don't feel that this stands out as one of Pablo's best interpetive performances,because of a lack of expressive affect focus.But that said...his playing generally articulated ahead of the perceived downbeat with some variance and his many micro-accelerandi make this nonetheless a 'worthwhile' performance. |
