He is explaining it so that leser beings such as ourselves can understand it :-) Of course you can't really have anything that we know of in 2d, because everything, ever quarks have length width and height, so you are right, but no-one cares because he's simplifying it in a hope that some really dumb people can understand it, like people who get C in GCSE Physics lol.
