Craiglist founder Craig Newmark says he's discovered he's not much of a manager. That's why he leaves the managing to others and concentrates on customer service.
This gives him the time and freedom to support different causes.
Newmark's comments came during an interview on News Talk Online on Paltalk.com live from the Personal Democracy Forum at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.
Several callers suggested projects Newmark might support. One caller, for example, said the websites of members of Congress should include polling to determine the will of the constituents. That could then be compared with the way the member voted.
Newmark turned the tables, though, on the callers, suggesting that if they have ideas they should get together with others and implement them. Then, he said, he'd consider giving them his support.
Also joining us as guests were Mayhill Fowler, the blogger whose reporting of Barack Obama's condescending remarks about "bitter" Pennsylvania voters became a huge story during. And conservative CNN commentator Amy Holmes.
Fowler says her experience shows that the blogosphere is, indeed, helping drive the discourse during the presidential campaign.
And Holmes says her network is watching what's happening on the Internet and joining, rather than fighting, the trend. Reporters, anchors and even producers, she says, are blogging for CNN. And campaign events are sometimes posted raw so that viewers can judge the candidates for themselves.
