"what's so great about this movie? Please some one tell me. I heard how great it was and decided to watch it and about died form being board" thats because your used to the mainstream high paced lame storyline movies with no cinematic excellence to be found, 2001 one is a movie that will stand the tests of time and Stanley Kubrick along with it....it needs no explanation why its sooo epic...

"I'd rather prefer 'Star Trek'." I liked Star Trek till I realized how stupid the idea was that all the Alien's just look like us with bit's stuck on there face's, I cringe now when I watch it. But I'd say Deep Space nine was the intelligent out of them all.

This isn't the best science fiction movie but it is an emotional motivator. It directs us towards reaching the stars and beyond. It's more of an artsy film. The music and visuals are calm and relaxing. The story is simple and not very complex. The story could have been expressed in half an hour. But for me its too sentimental. I'd rather prefer 'Star Trek'.Isaac Asimov's foundation series are epic; I consider Asimov the greatest science fiction writer in history but that's my opinion.

It's a cinematic masterpiece. It didn't need words or fast-paced action to be an epic. It simply... is. If you don't like it, fair enough. Personally though I think it was brilliant.
