But they don't land softly.
O nland they have the wheels which can take some impact and give it time to slow it down.
However during sea landing they just pierce through and all of the impact...
... just watch a video of a water landing you will see why it doesn't EVER land softly.

Considering all the air inside the cabin, the plane can actually stay afloat for several minutes, if the landing is soft enough.
