he is not there; i can see plato and aristotle and they are in their later years, and socrates would have been long dead by the time aristotle was, as he looks here, 50-60 years old. Boom, baby.

Can you find Socrates in the school of Athens picture shown at the end?
TNGRepublican (August 14, 2008 at 5:54 am)
I believe he was 81 when he died

Plato describes Socrates as having said this, although it could merely be artistic liscense at that point.

socrates didn't have an academy - the first was set up by plato he was a soldier and a stonemason, and explicitly refused payment for his philosophizing just aristophanes' play portrayed him as a sophist, which he wasn't so no, he wasn't wealthy

It was okay for the state to kill Socrates. Socrates said that whatever the state demands you to do you must do. To be against the state's decision to kill him he would have to abandon the pro-state part of his philosphy.

There is no proof socrates said "i only know, i know nothing". Ask any profesor of philosophy who has read about socrates to look for it in any book. But from another perspective, he did say similar thing, or so they wrote about him.
