OldsVistaCruiser,
I take from your knowledge of the Petticoat Junction locomotive you must either be a rail buff or retired railroad man. Am I right? Either way, keep up the good work!

Got my first crush on a female TV character watching this show. I really really wanted to pull a train at 8 years old.

i think all 3 shows were produced by Paul Henning and it's one of the few times in TV history that i can remember when the same characters could cross over into 3 different shows.

Actually, there were three CBS shows that crossed over with each other in that era - Beverly Hillbillies crossed over with Green Acres and Petticoat Junction.
Green Acres and Petticoat Junction were set in the same town, Hooterville, so they crossed over far more than the Beverly Hillbillies, who were supposed to originally be from the same area.

Barrister2u:
The water is used to MAKE the steam that powers the locomotive, not just to cool the boiler!
However, if the crown sheet (the bottom surface of the boiler) is allowed to go dry, it will weaken and WILL allow a powerful (and deadly) explosion to happen.
This particular loco was wood-fired, as you can see by the "balloon" smokestack, which was designed to reduce flying sparks, which could catch fire to trackside brush.
Oil & coal-fired locos used a straight smokestack.

I just ignored his response. I'm not about to drag a presidential campaign into such a pleasant TV show intro clip.

hey criscokiddo get a grip, you bored me to tears with your diretribe about the show, then you showed your ignorance by bringing obama into something that had nothing to do with him, as a matter of fact does anything about america or our culture have anything to do with him? i dont think so, in the the words of richard pryor "...have a coke and a smile and shut the f### up"
