If that's the definition you want to use, that's fine. A lot of people use it. But about the same amount of people use another definition. To claim that the one you happen to like best, is the one true definition, is wrong. And you should look up Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, because I guarantee you both are metal/heavy metal bands. Not hard rock. You are right about growling though. Growling is a lot more uncommon than common.

metal is genre and heavy metal is a style of metal genre. iron maiden and black sabbath isnt heavy metal. its hard rock as far as i know. what i am trying to say that it is not common to use growl technique in heavy metal. i heard lots of tracks and none of them conainted growling. and i talked to my friend who is really into metal and he aswell sayd that growl is used in other styles of metal. like death metal for isntance.

There are different definitions, and the one you like isn't necessarily the correct one. Some say metal is the genre, and heavy metal is the sub-genre of bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. Others say heavy metal is the genre, but you can also use just metal as a short form. While the sub-genre of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden is traditional or classic metal.
