This is a pretty sick song.
I wish I lived in the 50s.
I love the videos.

We were learning about ballads today and my teacher brought up this one and told us its history.
All of us was like: :O

When he says this, he means that even at our best times, we are all fallen people who mess up and make mistakes. And that we all need the love of God to redeem us and save us. That we can not judge others, because we all have skeletons in our closets or in this case "something under the floorboard'

I agree with you completely! However I believe he's talking in a religious aspect. How Jesus loves us no matter how badly we screw up and that in God's eyes all sins are weighed equally. That's just my opinion on the song, but your comment is totally true and completely justifiable though.

Beautiful and disturbing song. Also, this is amazing job by the director. The song is even creepier with this video backdrop. Well done Claire!

ya i don't really understand what he means in teh end when he says "i am just like him." I love sufjan stevens but that's a pretty fucked up statement. it bothers me but i still like the song, who knows what he meant, it's sufjan stevens.

Yeah everyone is equal. Like those scumbags who murder kids and beat up women and never have any intention of doing anything good for anyone are equal to those who dedicate their lives to helping others and saving lives. Hitler and Mother Theresa are equal. What you do with your life doesn't matter because someone will write a song about you reminding everyone that we are all equal.
Makes me wonder why we bother.

don't take these criticisms of the song's lyrics so literally.
If possible.
