I wish I had entire games of his radio calls. It was great as a child for me as well to use my imagination as Forney called Crimson Tide TD's.

I love listening to these old John Forney calls. Remembering laying on the carpet listening to all the games with my grandpa and dad....His voice takes me back.

No, that was the '73 game (42-21). '72 was at Neyland.

Wayne Wheeler caught that pass against Tennessee at Legion Field in '72. I was at the game. You got the score correct though. Alabama started out hot and had a 21 to zip lead but UT battled back behind the great Condredge Holloway at QB. Other key Alabama scores was an 80 yard run by Wilbur Jackson, and Robyn Cary returned a punt from around midfield for a score. It was a great game, a beautiful day, and great to be 12 years old and at the game with my Dad and older brother.

Loved hearing John Forney's play by play. It brings memories back!! Wish I could see a video of this game as well as several others from this time frame. The 1971 USC game which started the Wishbone era at Alabama, the LSU game in Baton Rouge in 1971 or 1972 where Wayne Wheeler caught a TD pass on the first play from scrimage & it ended something like 42-21. If anyone can tell me how to get those please post here & I will appreicate it very, very much! Thanks & Roll Tide Roll |
