Barry Dennen is here a great actor. He can express at the same time scare, sadness, pride and royalty. Very good.

Since I mentioned this with the 2000 trial scene I'll mention it here too. It seems that people either love the 1973 one and hate the 2000 one or vice versa. Maybe because they're both presented so differently, but I dont often hear of people who say they really enjoy both versions. Incidentally though, I much prefer this one. I just fell in love with Barry's performance. :)

The scene where you see Jesus' blood on Pilate's hands, was totally over the top!

This is the best scene of the best show ALW ever did. I really hate him and his thieving from everyone from Puccini to the folks song "schooldays", but this is great. It's powerful, shows the sincere questioning of Pilate(who represents all questioners through history) and the mob psychology(which also has not changed through history)
This is superb theater, though intensely blasphemous...
Judas was NOT Good...Even in this portrayal, He's not Good, but is shown as a catalyst(which he was.)

no it wasn't.. what the director did with the 2000 version was have it a little closer to the stageshow, reason for all the facial's of the actors, not like this one.. I find both a good watch

The guns are used because of what was going on while they were making the musical, the war. They are a sign of power and they are also making a statement about the war by using the guns. |
