I can't imagine how hard it must be dealing with that capo at the same time as he plays that good... I just listen and enjoy :D

It's not all that new. It's called a "third hand capo". Rather than being a solid bar across like a regular capo, it has the ability to fret any combination of the 6 strings when set up properly. So the reason he keeps grabbing the capo is because during certain parts of the song he opens up the full string, and then frets it again with the capo afterward.
