weather his smoking contributed to his death is irelivent. personally i think it is more to do with genes than abuse many people smoke all their lives others never smoke and die of lung cancer. at the end of the day its about freedom of choice. at least he died a smart man and not an idiot, like most

you were his docter? you can get cancer serveral ways, not necesserely from smoking.
cigarettes improves the chance of getting cancer, it does not directly creates cancer...
